Our Safeguarding coordinators are responsible for the implementation of the safeguarding framework, operationalising the ambitions of safeguarding policies and procedures and ensuring implementation of the Behavioral Commitments.

Safeguarding coordinators work to prevent, mitigate and respond to harm and to help to ensure that safeguarding is an active, everyday part of the Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders (MSF) organisational culture. 

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities will depend on the role/strategic direction and the context. 

  • Implementation of Safeguarding Policy/s and Code of Conduct and operationalising strategic plans for mainstreaming safeguarding in the country program
  • Awareness raising in the country program on the value of safeguarding and the MSF approach (this could include awareness raising among both internationally recruited and local staff, as well as patients and communities)
  • Delivering safeguarding and other relevant/associated training to leadership and wider teams
  • Providing expert advice and guidance to country teams on developing, implementing and mainstreaming safeguarding
  • Process organisation/clarity of roles and responsibilities regarding safeguarding in the country program
  • Progress in safeguarding mainstreaming in the country program, by monitoring and supporting best practice and tracking results
  • Producing reports to highlight analysis of safeguarding practice, incidents and trends
     

Role Requirements

  • At least two years' experience working in in a safeguarding function or in a role with significant safeguarding responsibilities is essential
  • Experience in designing and implementing training and awareness raising on safeguarding
  • Up to date knowledge of safeguarding legislation, regulations and best practice
  • Demonstrated understanding of inclusive practices and promotion of diversity
  • Experience dealing with highly sensitive issues
  • Excellent communication skills, able to operate with sensitivity and diplomacy, working as part of a team in a cooperative and supportive way and able to influence prioritising safeguarding across diverse teams
  • Ability to work independently and display strong initiative in day-to-day problem solving with limited direction
  • At least one assignment in an emergency context is desirable

Languages

  • English
  • French/Arabic and other languages are desirable
