Take action: Tell the UK Government to evacuate patients from Gaza

The fragile ceasefire in Gaza continues to hold. But, over 15,000 patients are in dire need of treatment that can’t be provided in Gaza’s destroyed health system.

Instead, they are awaiting medical evacuation to a safe country.

These patients include 10-year-old Mira, who is suffering from acute renal failure.

Yazan, age seven, who has congenital brain anomalies that require regular surgery, but has been waiting for over a year.

And Sarah, just six months old, who was born with a rare genetic disorder that affected her body’s ability to absorb nutrients. She died while waiting to be evacuated for treatment.

Between July 2024 and August 2025, at least 740 patients like Sarah died while awaiting evacuation. This figure is likely much higher, as numerous cases remain undocumented.

On 1 September, the UK Government announced a commitment to evacuate critically ill and injured children from Gaza to the UK for medical treatment.

While a group of 51 children and their caregivers has arrived, the UK has not publicly committed to keeping this lifeline open. In comparison, Egypt has taken in over 3,853 patients, Qatar 970, and Türkiye 441.

That’s why we’re keeping pressure on the UK not to stop or pause its medical evacuation scheme.

As your constituent, I am asking that the Government keep the door open for Gaza’s critically ill to receive life-saving treatment in the UK.The fragile ceasefire has not led to the end of extreme suffering in Gaza. Over 15,000 patients there are in need of medical evacuation. This includes Mira, 10, who is suffering from acute renal failure. Yazan, 7, was born with congenital brain anomalies and needs regular surgeries, and has been waiting for evacuation for over a year. Sarah, just 6 months old, was born with a rare genetic disorder that affect her body’s ability to absorb nutrients. She died while waiting to be evacuated for proper care.Gaza’s destroyed health system is unable to cope with the needs of these patients. As of August 2025, 94% of hospitals there were damaged or destroyed. As of September, fewer than 14 of these hospitals remained even partially functional. Even with the fragile ceasefire in place, humanitarian and medical aid is still being severely restricted, meaning that these few remaining hospitals don’t have sufficient supplies to treat those in their care.Between July 2024 and August 2025, at least 740 patients – including 137 children – died awaiting medical attention. This figure is likely a significant underestimation, as numerous cases remain undocumented.The UK Government’s medical evacuation scheme has been a lifeline for the patients reportedly admitted into the country in the first cohort. But there have been no guarantees for the continuation of this scheme, and little transparency on how decisions are being made. Recent announcements about new restrictions on asylum seekers and refugees cast even more doubt on the situation of the thousands more Palestinians still in urgent need of medical care.As my MP, I ask that you use every opportunity in Parliament to advocate for:1 - The continuation of the UK’s medical evacuation scheme for patients in Gaza2 - The massive expansion of humanitarian and medical aid for Gaza, including the full lifting of the Israeli blockade which remains in place despite the ceasefire.Please use your position to table Parliamentary questions, speak in debates, and write to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper to take swift and decisive action on this issue.
